# Device Identity

Read and write the Litmus Edge device's friendly name.

| Tool                           | Description                                                     |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `get_litmusedge_friendly_name` | Get the human-readable name assigned to the Litmus Edge device. |
| `set_litmusedge_friendly_name` | Update the friendly name.                                       |

## When to use which

- **Display purposes:** `get_litmusedge_friendly_name` whenever you need a label rather than a URL or IP for the edge.
- **Provisioning / commissioning:** `set_litmusedge_friendly_name` once, typically at first install.

## Requirements

- `EDGE_URL`, `EDGE_API_CLIENT_ID`, `EDGE_API_CLIENT_SECRET`.
