The Change processor modifies incoming messages: assigning a value to a field, finding and replacing a value, deleting a field, or moving a field's content elsewhere in the message.

## Why use Change

Use this processor for direct value assignments and string manipulation, for example setting a field to a fixed value or replacing all occurrences of a substring within a message field.

## How it works

The processor's behavior depends on the selected **Mode**:

- In **set** mode, the processor assigns **Input Value** to the message's **Input Field**.
- In **change** mode, the processor searches **Input Field** for **Input Value** and replaces it with **Replace With Value**:
  - If **Input Field** is a string or JSON, both **Input Value** and **Replace With Value** are converted to strings, and the processor replaces every substring match, not just a complete match.
  - For any other field type, the processor requires a complete match between **Input Value** and **Input Field** before replacing it with **Replace With Value**.
- If **Update Timestamp** is enabled, the processor adds the current timestamp to the message after it finishes the set or change operation.

**Note:** Mode also includes a **move** option, which relocates the field's content to the field specified in **Move To Field**.

## Parameters

| **Parameter**           | **Details**                                                                                       |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Mode                    | The type of modification to perform: `set`, `change`, `delete`, or `move`.                        |
| Input Field             | The message field targeted for modification.                                                      |
| Input Value Type        | The data type of Input Value.                                                                     |
| Input Value             | In **set** mode, the value to assign to Input Field. In **change** mode, the value to search for. |
| Replace With Value Type | The data type of Replace With Value.                                                              |
| Replace With Value      | The value that replaces the matched content in **change** mode.                                   |
| Move To Field           | In **move** mode, the field that receives the relocated content.                                  |
| Update Timestamp        | When enabled, adds the current timestamp to the message, recording when the change was made.      |
