The Inputs processors calculate a statistical property, such as the average, maximum, minimum, or sum, across the values of multiple inputs connected to an analytics flow.

## Why use the Inputs processors

Use one of the Inputs processors when you need to combine values from multiple input tags into a single statistic instead of processing each input independently, for example, averaging several temperature sensors into one reading.

## How it works

Choose the processor that matches the statistic you need:

- **Inputs Average** calculates the average of the connected inputs' values.
- **Inputs Maximum** returns the maximum value among the connected inputs.
- **Inputs Minimum** returns the minimum value among the connected inputs.
- **Inputs Sum** adds the connected inputs' values together.

Connect each input to the processor using a **values** connection, which also synchronizes the inputs by time. Connect the processor's output using an **events** connection.

By default, the processor operates on each input's `value` field. Use **Field Name** only if your inputs use a message-type payload or a field name other than `value`.

## Parameters

| **Parameter** | Details |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Processing Type | The data type of the value being processed: `float`, `signed integer`, or `unsigned integer`. |
| Field Name | The field the processor operates on. Leave this unchanged unless your input is a message-type payload or uses a field name other than `value`. |
| Pass Through Value | Determines whether the processor's output is the calculated statistic or the original unchanged input value. |
