by default, the tool will always be set to wizard mode, to allow any user regardless of their proficiency in influxql to create a query but the wizard mode has some limitations and doesn't allow for complex and advanced techniques like using another query as from statement nesting functions like aggregators or selectors using queries in group by while the manual mode allows for more freedom, it has limitations in regards to using variables for certain parts of the query like times or name values for very advanced users which are advanced in both excel as well as influxql, the can use the external mode note when switching into external (reference) mode be aware of if the previous setting was in wizard mode, the query will be deleted if the previous setting was in external reference mode, the query will be deleted note using the external mode requires, that the query has been created in a excel sheet and resides in a single cell this allows users for example to use cell references from other excel sheets or cells to make aspects of the query dynamic example the order by value is taken from another cell allowing the query to be adjusted without reeditin the query itself if not already set, the tool will prompt for a query name and connection selection the user then selects the external reference using the edit icon select the cell and press the ok button the external cel lreference will be shown as well as the value from that cell as the query statement note the user needs to make sure the query is correctly formated the tool doesn't assist with the user in this mode the query can also not edited through the tool if the query doesn't return data, the user will need to edit the query directly in the excel sheet user can verify if the query returns data before saving the query
